Pakistan Railways serves 472 stations nationwide. These six major hubs connect trains across all four provinces.
One of Asia's largest railway networks — connecting cities and communities since 1861.
Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and KPK linked by passenger and freight services year-round.
Real-time GPS on major expresses enables platforms like RailLive to provide live data.
The backbone of long-distance travel in Pakistan for over 160 years.
Every train carries a direction label. On the main Karachi–Lahore–Peshawar corridor, trains heading north away from Karachi are UP trains; trains heading back toward Karachi are DOWN. The convention dates to the colonial era and now applies purely directionally across the entire 7,791 km network.
Every passenger train has a pair of numbers, one per direction: odd numbers are always UP, even numbers always DOWN. Tezgam Express runs as 7UP from Karachi to Lahore and 8DN on the return. On every RailLive page the direction shows beside the train number, so you always know which way a service is heading.
The ARR column is scheduled arrival, DEP is departure, in 24-hour format (14:30 = 2:30 PM). Identical ARR and DEP means a stop under a minute; a gap of five minutes or more usually means the train waits to cross an oncoming service on single track. Not every train runs daily — check the "Runs" column on any schedule before travelling, and remember the live board only shows trains actually running today.
Around Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, extra services run on the busiest routes for 7–10 days at standard fares. Booking opens 15–30 days ahead and sells out within hours — plan three to four weeks ahead. Full UP/DOWN guide →

Hyderabad (about 2 hours out) is Sindh's second city and a major boarding point. Rohri Junction is one of Pakistan's biggest junctions, where the Quetta branch diverges. Multan Cantonment is southern Punjab's busiest boarding point, and Sahiwal the last major stop before Lahore.
